It was fun to shop for the prizes and I must admit I only ate ONE of those _ pound candy bars myself!

The REBECCA MARTIN PIANO STUDIO is filled with musicians getting out in public and struttin' their stuff. Read on…

Susanna played for her grandparents this summer.

Natalie is in choir at Flatirons Elementary.

Meggan is in the Broadway choir at Fairview. She and James performed in The King and I at CU. James is playing percussion in the band at Manhattan. Meggan and James both take voice lessons with Mary Lou Heslip. Meggan gave her Book 5 recital.

Seth plays bass in Jazz Band One at Monarch High School and alto sax in the marching band. He participated as a bassist with the Colorado Conservatory of Jazz Arts workshops.

David sings in the all men's choir Chivalry, and Voices of the Knight at Fairview High School. He also takes voice lessons.

Ayana plays flute in the Manhattan band. She played at her church twice and also at church camp in Charlotte, NC. She was grand entertainment as everyone was in line to get food.

Joy attended the Rocky Mountain Vocal Jazz Camp in Bailey for 6 days. She is president of Excaliber at Fairview, sings in Festival choir and is taking a performance class.

Ellen attended Camp Allegro in Vermont for 3 weeks. While there, she sang, played piano, and took classes in drama. Ellen continues to sing with the Colorado Children's Chorale. She is in Tour choir.

Ellie is taking voice lessons from Julie Scott.

Liam plays clarinet at school.

Savannah is preparing to accompany a Suzuki Book One violin recital. She also played in a hotel lobby in Mexico.

Chris is the pianist in Jazz One at Fairview. His combo had several paying gigs this summer. He played in the lobby of the lodge in Glacier National Park. He and I sat in at a jam session at the Boulder Outlook Hotel. Chris attended camp and played in the All Star Jazz Band. He received the invitation to play there based on his performance at the Mile High Jazz Fest.

Jason plays piano in the Jazz 2 band at Fairview and also plays trumpet in the marching band and recently participated in CU Band Day. He attended the CCJA Boot Camp (on trumpet), put on by the Colorado Conservatory for Jazz Arts. Jason gave his Book 5 recital. Jason will be participating in the Tuesday night workshop series offered by CCJA.

Dave played jazz and classical at two birthday parties and got together with his performance group.

Ashley and John David both attended the Peaks to Plains Suzuki Institute. Ashley gave her Book 2 recital. John David gave his Book 1 recital.

Madeleine attended the Snowmass Suzuki Institute.

Ethan is playing trumpet in the band at Southern Hills. He gave his Book 4 recital.

Mary Cait gave her Book 2 recital.

John is playing piano in the Jazz 2 band at Monarch.

Izzy plays in a trio with her two brothers (violin and cello).

They attended Birch Creek Music Camp in Wisconsin and were the warm up act for the faculty recital. The Fischer Trio had their 3rd annual performance as the main music for a service at Hope Church in Wisconsin. They also added their great-grandfather (a violin teacher) for a family performance in upstate N.Y.

Izzy also takes voice lessons.

Thanks for doing a beautiful job representing the studio!

Rebecca News

I had a wonderful summer! The Rockadiles played in Pittsburgh, Seattle, and Steamboat Springs. I played solo piano at a wedding, a funeral, and an anniversary party. I took my children to Paris, Tours, and Amsterdam. I had not returned to Paris since I was a student there in the 70's. I spoke lots of French and was happy it came back. We got to see the fireworks at the Eiffel Tower for the 14th of July celebration. One of the best nights was spent on the steps descending from the Sacre Coeur Church. It was a very hot night and the area was shaded (thankfully). There were several guitar players playing American pop tunes. Everyone was singing along and it was great fun. Music is truly the universal language and I feel blessed to be able to share it.

I taught at the Southcentral Alaska Suzuki Institute for the 10th year in a row. I took three really challenging and scenic hikes with my composer friend, Catherine McMichael. I played an original composition on the faculty recital.

My music theory card game Sounds Like? has been selling well this summer. Annie Fox drew the beautiful panda. Thanks also to Trip Reynolds for the original design concept. It is for sale here in the studio and also at Take Note Music Store in Gunbarrel. I have also sold many of my piano greeting cards. It is so satisfying to have these projects completed. Annie also designed a new practice sheet for the studio. (Thanks!) Ask me for a copy.

I am president of the Boulder Area Federated Music Teachers this year.

My running times have been slow this summer although I have had fun running in Fort Collins (Rocky Mountain Master's Games) and Greeley (my first "Senior" event!). I have one more meet, The Huntsman World Senior Games in Utah in October. No matter what, I'm going to be faster in 2006!
